Week One of the Arizona Fall League

October 12, 2008 by

With the first week of the Arizona Fall League completed, we are looking forward to more exciting baseball. Week one provided a preview of the competitive baseball to come with the arrival of some major league prospects that had time with their major league organizations. These players will be fine-tuning their skills in the weeks to come. Some of these big-leaguers include Clay Buchholz from Boston Phil Hughes of the Yankees and Max Scherzer of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

In week one we have seen some awesome power from players such as Shawn Bowman and Sean Doolittle, both of which have two home runs at week’s ens. There has been no shortage of pitching although some of the scores have not lent themselves to that statement. The teams are heavily rotating pitchers to make sure htat they are able to get some time in. Phil Hughes of the New York Yankees and Max Scherzer of the D-Backs both started the week with some excellent outings. Brian Matusz of the Baltimore Orioles nearly had a perfect game in his pitching debut for the Surprise Rafters on Saturday night. With six weeks left of the Arizona Fall League, there is still plenty of opportunity to catch some of these young talented stars at a ball park near you.
