Week Four of the AFL Kicks Off

October 26, 2008 by

Nearing the halfway point of the 2008 Arizona Fall League Season, this week looks to be another fun-filled week in Fall Ball. As the teams finished up week three with some spectacular play, they will be getting ready for the downhill stride in the last half of the season. As the weather finally seems to be cooling off substantially, the play will begin to heat up, since these talented players have limited time to make their impact felt.

Several players continue to deliver consistent performances for their organizations as they strive for a trip to Spring Training. Although some of these young stars will be travelling elsewhere, if they make the cut, many of the players will remain here in Arizona for Cactus League Spring Training.

While Peoria’s own two teams have been battling it out at the beginning of the season, the Javelinas begin this week on top of their division but, behind their local rivals in the league standings. With a limited number of teams, it is difficult to say if a weekly schedule is going to be tough. But, for the Scottsdale Scorpions, who have been struggling as of late, we think that it is fair to say that they will have a tough week ahead of them. Scottsdale will face teams with the best records in the AFL four times this week.

Other matchups that could be interesting include the Solar Sox (Mesa) and the Saguaros (Peoria) who will go head-to-head for the first two games this week. Both teams are tied for first place in the American Division. Both teams also sport the best records in the AFL. On the flip side of the standings, despite their records, the Surprise versus Scottsdale matchups should be just as exciting to watch as are all AFL games.
