Desert Dogs Go Yard Seven Times
October 27, 2008 by AZ Hardball
In their 16-7 victory over the Surprise Rafters, the Phoenix Desert Dogs brought their hot bats to the game Monday afternoon in Surprise. Nearly half of the runs generated can be attributed to the Colorado Rockies’ prospect Michael McKenry. The Dogs’ catcher nearly doubled his season’s RBIs in one game by hitting three home runs and driving in seven runs. Doolittle and Tolleson also contributed with home runs of their own at one a piece.
The nine run victory was not the largest winning margin on Monday. The Peoria Saguaros trumped the Solar Sox by 11 runs in their 13-2 win over Mesa. Arizona State’s Brett Wallace had a home run of his own while shortstop Ian Desmond went three-for-three with three RBIs. Pitching for the Saguaros, Lucas Harrell pitched three innings with four strikeouts and no earned runs giving him the win.
The final game of the afternoon was won by the Peoria Javelinas who beat Scottsdale by the score of 6-3. One exceptional performance of note includes, Rhyne Hughes going 2-4 while maintaining his tie for the third best batting average in the Arizona Fall League.
