Convincing Victories in AFL Action

October 29, 2008 by

Some convincing victories were earned Wednesday evening as the Arizona Fall League approaches its halfway point. Mesa, Phoenix and the Peoria Saguaros all achieved commanding victories as they finish up week four of Fall League action. There were some more performances of note on Wednesday as the players continue to fight for their chance to play in Spring Training.

The Peoria Saguaros beat the Surprise Rafters by a score of 12-6 with some excellent offense. One performance of note was displayed by the San Diego Padres’ Mike Baxter. Baxter continues to make excellent contributions as he goes five for five with four RBIs and one home run. The Rafters lead early but the play by the Saguaros proved to be too much, later on, for the Rafters to handle, dropping this game at home.

Phoenix beat the Javelinas by the score of 10-2 with the help of Oakland Athletics’ prospect Sean Doolittle. Doolittle nearly hit for the cycle as he came a triple shy of the elusive feat. Toronto catcher J.P. Arencibia and Colorado’s Chris Nelson contributed two RBIs a piece in the Phoenix Desert Dogs’ victory.

Mesa beat the Scottsdale Scorpions in Mesa by a score of 10-4. Although Scottsdale delivered two home runs, it did not prove to be enough to reign victorious over the Sox. Jeff Larish’s three RBIs helped to propel the Mesa Solar Sox to victory while they maintain their first place tie with the Peoria Saguaros in the American Division.
