Petit Replicating Prior Week’s Success

In Surprise, the Scorpions beat the Rafters for the second day in a row; this time with an exclamation mark. The 10 run victory would come as a result of some excellent hitting by the Scottsdale team. Giants’ prospect Emmanuel Burriss hit his first homerun of the AFL season while nearly everyone contributed with an RBI of their own. Petit had another outstanding game as he continues to perform well for the Scorpions. Chris Petit went 2-4 on Tuesday with four RBIs off of a triple and a single. Surprise gets beat at home by a score of 14-4.

In Mesa, the Solar Sox would score first as the Javelinas would take the lead back in the fourth inning. In what looked to be a victory for Peoria, the game team would fold in the last two innings of play. Casper Wells was put into the game in the top of the eighth inning to pinch run for Jeremy Slayden. Wells would end up staying in the game to play right field which would end up being an excellent strategic move. In the top of the ninth inning, one run would score on a passed ball. The Sox would then place a runner on before Peoria would pitch around Logan Morrison to get to Casper Wells. Wells exploited the call to pitch around Morrison by nailing a towering three run shot that would serve as a little insurance for Mesa as they score four times in the top of the ninth. The four run Mesa lead would become the difference in the game as the Solar Sox defeat the Javelinas by a score of 8-4.

In Phoenix, the Desert Dogs would have a close battle with the visiting Peoria Saguaros. Phoenix would score first in the bottom of the fourth inning and would allow four runs the following inning to lose hold of the lead. Phoenix would slowly chip away at the Saguaro lead before the seventh inning. In the bottom of the seventh inning Michael McKenry would lead the charge with a three run seventh inning which would be enough to tie the game at five a piece. Chris Nelson of the Colorado Rockies would hit a home run of his own in the bottom of the eighth inning which would prove to be the game winning run as the Desert Dogs beat the Saguaros 6-5.
