Johnson dominates in his first start ever against D-Backs

teams_ariArizona Diamondback all time great Randy Johnson made his first regular season start ever against his former club and pitched 7 innings of vintage Johnson style ball allowing only one hit against his former mates. Johnson entered the 7th inning with a no hitter before Augie Ojeda hit a double in the top of the 7th.

Johnson had been roughed up so far this season and entered the game with an ERA over 11, but as the Diamondbacks have done so often this year they made RJ look like his old Cy-self and Johnson left the game getting his first win of the year and lowering his ERA to 6.32.

The D-backs 2-0 loss made it 8 times in 12 games this year they have scored two or less runs. In the three games against the Giants, Arizona combined for 11 hits and two runs to go along with their 31 strikeouts. Arizona also went into the third game of a series with a 1-1 record for the fourth time this season and for the fourth time lost the rubber game.

Max Scherzer pitched well enough to get his first win of his major league career, but was unable to get the win after being removed after the 5th inning. Scherzer had a rough 4th inning loading the bases with no outs, but managed to get out of the inning with only one run allowed. Besides for the one rough inning Scherzer looked like the star prospect he is billed to be.

The head-scratching move of the game came in the 8th inning when manager Bob Melvin decided to start the 8th inning of a 1-0 game with Jon Rauch and Rauch did what he has done so well all season allowing two base hits to the first two batters he faced before being lifted.

The Diamondbacks return home for another 9-game homestand starting with the Colorado Rockies.
