D-backs Shelled by Chicago
April 28, 2009 by AZ Hardball
In the second game of the three game series, the Chicago Cubs pounded the Arizona Diamondbacks by a score of 11 to 3. To add to his pitching effectiveness, Carlos Zambrano was only a triple short of hitting for the cycle. Had Zambrano done so, he would have been the first pitcher ever to do so.
Petit would give up seven runs in his outing, giving up two of the home runs. The D-backs would begin to show a little offense but, not nearly enough to come back from such a large deficit. Tom Gordon would pitch for an inning and would look pretty solid in his outing as he showed the world that he still had his stuff.
Tomorrow marks the final game in the home stand before the team heads to Milwaukee to meet the Brewers who are second to last in their division but still above .500.
