Diamondbacks Power Back
April 29, 2009 by AZ Hardball
The Arizona Diamondbacks bounced back with a vengeance Wednesday afternoon in their final game of the homestand as they blank the Cubs by a score of 10 to 0. Five players would have one or more RBIs and Doug Davis would strike out seven in seven innings pitched. The Arizona squad would show Chicago that they have the talent to blow them out more convincingly than they were the day prior.
Doug Davis’ win puts him at 2-3 for the year as Pena and Gutierrez combine to wrap things up on the pitching side of things. It appears that “small ball” needs to remain the name of the game for the D-backs as they put plenty of runners on base and taking full advantage by getting runs in. Although Chad Tracy had a solo shot in the third inning, we would see less anxiety at the plate and less swinging for the fences.
The discipline at the plate would reward the team with extra runs as they added to their total for the afternoon. Despite the much needed victory, we will continue to look for consistency from team as they have a tough schedule ahead of them. The D-backs head to Milwaukee to face the Brewers on Thursday followed by the Dodgers and the Padres and will not return home until May 8th when they will be facing Adam Dunn and the Washington Nationals.
