Diamondbacks unable to get anything going again in 4-3 loss

The D-backs have been unable to manufacture many runs all season and have had to rely on long ball and today was no different. The D-backs went into the seventh inning trailing 3-0 but were finally able to get to Bush in the seventh and tie it on three solo home runs. Mark Reynolds got things going with a homer to left off Bush then Justin Upton would follow for his fourth homer of the year and second in two days when he took Bush’s offering over the center field wall.

Bush would retire Connor Jackson and Chris Young before catcher Miguel Montero would tie it with the third homerun of the inning.

Arizona Diamondbacks starter Yusmeiro Petit had one of his better outings of the season going five innings and allowing three runs on four hits and a walk. Petit allowed back to back homers on back to back pitches in the second inning to Prince Fielder and Mike Cameron. Cameron had said after yesterday’s game he did not receive a fast ball all game from starter Dan Haren which is why he had a hard time. Cameron did not have the same problem today as Petit and Montero decided a first pitch fast ball may be a good thing to try against Cameron and Cameron thanked them with a shot that easily cleared the wall.

Tom Gordon started the sixth inning Arizona and allowed a single, a walk and recoded one out before he had to be lifted because of injury. Gordon pulled a ham string and may be headed to the DL. Juan Guitierrez would allow the winning run in the eighth inning.

The D-backs dropped to 11-14 on the season and now head to L.A. where they will have a chance to make up some ground on the Dodgers. The D-backs have been getting great pitching from their starters this year, but if they want to make a run at the Dodgers they are going to need to learn to manufacture runs and not rely so much on the long-ball.
