teams_ariMatt Scherzer picked up his first win in the big leagues today in a 12-0 thumping of the Atlanta Braves. Scherzer did not have his dominant stuff today, but was good enough to get through six innings of shutout ball allowing four hits and striking out four while walking three batters. Scherzer moved to 1-3 on the season and lowered his ERA to an impressive 3.35. Today’s game marked Scherzer’s 23rd appearance for the D-backs and his 14th start.

The bats woke up in a big way for the D-backs today.  The D-backs were able to get to Braves starter Kenshin Kawakami for three runs. Rookie Gerardo Parra is making a case to stay in the lineup every day as he went 3-for-6 today with three runs batted in. Justin Upton and Eric Byrnes also continuted their hitting ways, Upton went 2-for-4 with a walk and Byrnes was 2-for-5 with two runs batted in.

Arizona was comfortably ahead 6-0 heading into the ninth inning when they really broke it open. The D-backs scored six runs in the top of the ninth inning lead by Chris Snyder’s grand-slam homer. Snyder finished 1-for-2 with two walks, five RBI’s and two walks

The Diamondback’s bullpen was inpressive today allowing only three hits and three walks allowing no runs over the last three innings.
