D-backs fall to A’s in series closer

teams_ariJon Garland struggled off and on for the first five innings, but was able to shut-out the Oakland Athletics for five innings before allowing three earned runs in the sixth inning. The three runs were too much to overcome, but the D-backs still finished the road trip with a 6-3 record.

Arizona got on the board first in the first inning when Stephen Drew was able to drive in Gerardo Parra. The D-backs maintained the 1-0 until Landon Powell hit his first homer in the bigs giving the A’s a 3-1 lead. Arizona had plenty of opportunities, but all to often when they got a runner on base they would hit into a double play, 4 in all.

Oakland starter Josh Outman improved to 2-0 with his win today and battled for 7.2 innings allowing only four hits and one earned run.

Arizona comes home tomorrow to start a seven game home stand starting with the red-hot San Diego Padres.
