Davis pitches gem in D-backs win

teams_ariThe Arizona Diamondbacks started out on the right foot in San Diego with an 8-0 win over the division rival Padres. The D-backs were lead by starting pitcher Doug Davis who pitched six scoreless innings. Davis allowed three hits and struck out five batters earning his third win of the year. Davis was followed by Daniel Schlereth, who regained his form with a hitless inning striking out the side in the seventh.

Of the nine starters only third baseman Augie Ojeda was held hitless. Chris Young went 2-for-3 including his fourth homer of the year in the second inning.Arizona scored four more in the fifth inning with an RBI double by Gerardo Para, Mark Reynolds followed with an RBI single and catcher Chris Snyder knocked in two more with a single.

Despite an ERA under 4, Davis’ win was his first since April. The D-backs will try to pull within a half game of the Pades when Max Scherzer takes to the mound in tomorrow night’s game.
