Milestone Evening Helps Astros Beat D-backs

June 14, 2009 by

feat_dbacks_0011Both Miguel Tejada and Lance Berkman reach hitting milestones as the Houston Astros defeat the Arizona Diamondbacks by a score of 6 to 4. Berkman would launch his 300th homerun for the Astros and Tejada would earn his 2,000th hit in Saturday evening’s game. Arizona would play solid baseball and lose a tough one to the Astros as they come off of back-to-back wins.

Doubles would be hit by Drew, Reynolds and Whitesell. Chris Young would hit his 6th home run of the season in the fourth inning. Young’s homer would also be his second in two consecutive games. Mark Reynolds would rack up two RBI in the game but the four D-backs runs would not be enough to win the game. Garland would allow three of the six earned runs as Gutierrez would allow the other three in the eighth inning.

Reliever Scott Schoeneweis made his first appearance since his bereavement leave of absence from the organization. Scott retired both of the batters that he faced, throwing seven pitches with six for strikes. When Schoeneweis left the field he received a standing ovation from the crowd. He shielded his face with his glove to hide his emotion in his brief appearance in the game.

The D-backs look to win the game and the series tomorrow as they face the Astros for the final game of the home stand as Moehler will pitch against Billy Buckner.
