D-backs Drop First Interleague Game
June 18, 2009 by AZ Hardball
The Arizona Diamondbacks were silenced by the Kansas City Royals’ Gil Meche in their first interleague game of the season. Meche would pitch a shut out going the full nine innings, striking out six, only allowing one walk and four hits. The D-backs’ bats proved ineffective against the right-handed pitcher as the teams squared off on Tuesday.
Arizona would struggle in the field, once again, as they allow three errors in the game against the Royals. Kansas City would not be able to go yard against the Diamondbacks pitching but would hit two doubles and provide enough offense to gather up five runs and win the game. The final score was 5-0.
The team would struggle against the play of the Royals as it appeared that they were giving their all. Doug Davis would strike out five, only one less than his starting opponent. Unfortunately things would not pick up for the team as they are unable to pull off a victory. The D-backs look to improve their record as Max Scherzer faces off against Zack Greinke in the second game of the series.
