July 5, 2009 by Dean

teams_ariArizona Diamondbacks starter Yusmeiro Petit had a rough outing going only five innings and allowing four earned runs, but the D-backs offense was able to bounce back and put up the runs needed to rally and beat the Colorado Rockies by a score of 11-7.

The D-backs trailed the Rockies by a score of 4-3 heading into the eighth inning. With out out in the 8th Miguel Montero would double and score one batter later when Gerardo Parro followed with another double. The next two batters, Chad Tracy and Felipe Lozez would walk loading the bases with only one out. Chris Young would pinch hit for pitcher Scott Schoeneweis and clear the bases with a double giving the D-backs the lead. After a pitching change Stephen Drew would homer and the D-backs grabbed a 9-4 lead.

The D-backs needed the extra cushion as Clay Zavada’s recent struggles continued. Zavada allowed thre runs, but the D-backs were able to hold on for the win.
