Despite being outhit 2-1 D-backs down Rockies and win series

July 5, 2009 by Dean

teams_ariFor the first time since mid-June when the Arizona Diamondbacks traveled to Kansas City to play the Royals they won a series against their opponent. The D-backs were outhit 8-4 today against the Colorado Rockies, but behind a rock solid outing from the bullpen and behind Mark Reynold’s three RBI’s they were able to walk away with a 4-3 win.

Dan Haren, who was named to the All-Star team for the National League pitched six innings allowing three runs of which only one was earned on seven hits and six strikeouts while walking none. Haren did let up another home run today which has been his one weakness this year.

After Dan Haren left the game for a pinch hitter in the top of the seventh inning the pullpen took over and picked right up where Haren left off allowing only one hit and one walk over the last three innings.

Arizona trailed by a score of 3-0 heading into the 6th. With two out Alex Romero and Stephen Drew both walked before Mark Reynolds hit a shot to left that cleared the wall scoring three. Arizona would add one more in the seventh giving Haren the win by a score of 4-3 despite having only 4 hits in the game.

Mark Reynolds now has 24 homers and 61 RBI’s on the season making him a prime candidate for the All Star game. Reynolds was named as one of the five finalist for the last spot to be voted on by the fans. Make sure you get out early and often as Reynolds is deserving.
