“He sends Justin Upton home. You send him to St. Louis!”

feat_dbacks_0008Daron Sutton says it all as Mark Reynolds furthers his campaign for an all-star appearance. The Arizona Diamondbacks come off of a series win in Colorado to return home to play in front of the second smallest crowd in franchise history. Mark Reynolds would state his case for being an all-star as he provides some late game heroics once again to secure the team’s victory against the San Diego Padres. Garland would start on the mound for the D-backs, giving up three runs but would strike out four batters in the game. Jon Rauch would come in at relief and be the unlikely game winning pitcher. Rauch has been looking solid as of late and would come through strong in the clutch to help Arizona to victory.

The game would begin with a Diamondbacks’ run in the first inning which was later cancelled out by two Padres runs in the second inning. Arizona would then rally back with two more runs in the third inning as a result of a two-run homer to straight away center field by Justin Upton. In the fifth inning the Padres would score off of a wild throw by Miguel Montero passed third base. The Padres would score one more in the seventh and another in the eighth in which looked to be a decent lead for the team from San Diego.

In the bottom of the eighth, the tides would slowlt begin to turn as the D-backs score two runs. One run was off of a pinch-hit home run by Chad Tracy that was sent into the pool area. While several fans departed the game before even getting a chance to see the tie, the Diamondbacks would perform in the ninth inning in dramatic fashion. Justin Upton, who made a pair of spactacular running catches in the outfield, would walk with two outs and steal second before the man, making his case for his first all-star appearance would make his case.

Mark Reynolds would come to the plate taking the first pitch as a ball and the second pitch as a called strike. As the pressure mounted, Reynolds would watch another ball before fouling off the next pitch. With the cound two and two, Mark Reynolds would hit in the game winning run by hitting a screaming shot down the left field line to bring in Justin Upton and win the Diamondbacks the game. Remember to vote Mark Reynolds for the all-star game as he and his team prepare to face the San Diego Padres in game two of a three game series.
