D-backs Sweep Padres with Big Eighth

July 8, 2009 by AZ Hardball

teams_ariThe Arizona Diamondbacks went into this afternoon’s game winning four in a row with Max Scherzer on the mound for the team. The Diamondbacks would win their fifth in a row by coming from behind with a five run eighth inning to win the game with some help from Felipe Lopez who would provide the cap to the game with a two run shot near the end of the inning.

Although Scherzer would be credited with both of the San Diego runs, the right-handed pitcher would strike out nine batters to help the D-backs to stay close. The Padres would lead going into the seventh inning when the Diamondbacks would hit in one run to close the gap. Going into the eighth inning the bats would heat up as Young, Tracy and Romero would hit in an RBI a piece and Lopez would hit in two of his three for the game.

Clay Zavada would be credited with the win as the team continues onto meet the Florida Marlins in the first game of a four game series. The team has not had a day off since June 29th and looks to extend their run of winning games. With the latest win, it would put the team a half a game up on the Padres as they face the second place Florida Marlins as Miller squares off with Petit.
