Diamondbacks Hold Off Padres
July 8, 2009 by AZ Hardball
The Arizona Diamondbacks were able to hold off the San Diego Padres for the second straight night. The D-backs would create an early lead by driving in four runs in the third and the fourth innings. San Diego would score a run early and would try to bounce back from the three run deficit but was unable to do so. The D-backs would be able to hold on to win the game by a score of 4-3.
Pitcher Doug Davis would throw six and one-thirds innings, striking out six while allowing two of the earned runs. Davis would also pick off two Padres at first base and drive in a run to help his cause. Specialist Scott Schoeneweis would come in to do his part by baffling lefties before Jon Rauch would come into the game. Rauch would give up one run, allowing San Diego to close in on the lead before Qualls would come in to wrap the game up.
The D-backs send Max Scherzer to the mound to face off against Chad Gaudin in an afternoon matchup that promises to be hot.
Before, after or during the game, don’t forget to vote Mark Reynolds for the final spot in the 2009 All-Star Game.
