Garland’s strong outing not enough

teams_ariJon Garland continued his hot pitching and Miguel Montero continued to swing a hot bat, but Todd Helton was to much today for the D-backs as they fall to the Colorado Rockies and drop the series in a 4-3 loss.

John Garland went seven strong innings and allowed only five hits and three earned runs. Scott Schoeneweis came in to start the 8th inning and allowed only one it, a homer to Todd Helton who earlier in the game recorded is career 500th double for the Rockies.

Arizona was only able to cross the plate in one inning as they scored three in the third inning. Stephen Drew was the first to the plate in the third and lead off with a single, but was sent to the bench when Alex Romero hit into a fielder’s choice. With Justin Upton at the plate Romero moved to second on a balk then third on a wild pitch by Ubaldo Jimenez. Upton walked and Mark Reynolds struck out bringing hot hitting catcher Miguel Montero to the plate. Montero did not disapoint and hit his 9th round-tripper of the year giving the D-backs a 3-1 lead.

D-backs head home to play the Pirates in their first home series since before the All-Star game.
