Mitchell on Fire Against Rafters

The Javelinas would provide an offensive assault as they defeat the Surprise Rafters by seven runs. Dodgers prospect Russ Mitchell would be hot at the bat as he would drive in five of the Peoria runs for the team. Mitchell would go three-for-five with a homerun, a double, two runs scored and no strikeouts. The Peoria Javelinas would travel to Phoenix to face the first place Desert Dogs at Phoenix Mini. The Javelinas would score first in the top of the second inning off of a one-run Jonathan Lucroy homerun. The Peoria bats would remain pretty quiet as the Desert Dogs were able to put up their first run in the seventh inning. In a big eighth inning, Peoria would manage to put four more runs on the board, adding a little insurance for the team. In the bottom of the eighth, Phoenix would gather three more runs but would not be enough to earn the lead as they lose the game by a run. Read more

Grant Desme homers twice for the Phoenix Desert Dogs as they defeat the Peoria Javelinas by a score of 11 to 6. Desme has hit a total of ten homers thus far this AFL season with no signs of slowing down. Another top contributor for Phoenix was Oakland counterpart Corey Brown who went 2-for-5 with three RBI. For the Javelinas, Casper Wells would go yard, hitting a three-run shot in the bottom of the third inning. Winning pitcher Mitch Talbot of Tampa Bay would pitch four innings with three strikeouts but would suffer from a bad third inning as the Javelinas were able to gather up five runs in that inning of play. The remaining Phoenix pitchers would only allow one more run for the remainder of the game. Read more
Saguaros Pitching Baffles Phoenix

The Peoria Saguaros pitching does it again with their third shutout of the Arizona Fall League. On an even better note, the last place Saguaros defeated the first place and reigning AFL champions, the Phoenix Desert Dogs. Five Peoria pitchers would combine for the shutout with a total of ten strikeouts with two a piece. While the Desert Dogs’ bats were silenced, Peoria received some run support from Freddie Freeman, Zack Cozart and Jonathan Gaston. Each player would drive in one run a piece. The fourth run would come as a result of a fielding error by Phoenix as the Saguaros win by a score of 4 to nothing. Read more
A Pair of Slams in Monday Action

The Phoenix Desert Dogs begin their week with a victory over the Mesa Solar Sox at Phoenix Municipal Stadium. The Phoenix team would get off to an early lead by knocking in three runs in the first inning of play. A three-run shot by Grant Desme would score three runs taking the Desert Dogs into the second inning. The Sox would score a few more runs to tie the game by the beginning of the fourth inning. In the bottom of the fourth Phoenix would regain the lead, driving in two, off of a sac fly and an RBI single. Mesa would come back to tie the game in the top of the ninth. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Rays’ prospect and catcher Nevin Ashley would hit a walk-off grand slam home run to secure the Desert Dogs victory in a close game. Read more
