Strasburg’s Debut and Solid Victories

October 17, 2009 by

feat_afl_0033The battle of the Peoria teams did not seem much like a battle on Friday as the Javelinas stomped the Saguaros by a score of 13 to 3. The Javelinas started the damage early as the team scored four runs in the first inning before adding insult to injury for the remainder of the game. Solid pitching by the Javelinas would help to win the game as all runs were scored off of only one of their pitchers. Russell Mitchell of the Los Angeles Dodgers would go 2-for-4 with a RBI double and a three-run homer for his team.

Surprise would defeat the Solar Sox for the second game in a row as the two teams played in Mesa. Although the defeat was not as convincing as the day prior, the team would come through by gaining an early lead and not giving it up. Offensive support was provided by Brandon Laird who had himself a three-run homer with two on and two out. The three runs were provided in the first inning of play and provided the lead with more baseball to play. The Sox were unable to score enough runs to come back and trailed for the entire game.
