Reds’ Heisey Powers Saguaros to First AFL Win

The struggling Saguaros looked for their first AFL victory against the Phoenix Desert Dogs at Phoenix Municipal Stadium. The Reds’ Chris Heisey would go 3-for-4 at the plate, driving in three and crossing the plate twice. Heisey’s performance would help the Saguaros to stand tall against the Desert Dogs as things would look bleak for the Saguaros in the seventh inning. In the seventh, Phoenix would score eight runs to put the pressure on. In the top of the ninth, the Saguaros’ bats would come through as the team was able to score six more runs to take the lead and the game from the Phoenix Desert Dogs.

The Solar Sox faced the Javelinas in a high-scoring game Tuesday afternoon with solid performances from their one and two batters in the line up. Starlin Castro of the Cubs and Bryan Petersen of the Marlins would both go 4-for-5 in the game against the Javelinas. Between the two, they would have a total of five runs scored. However, the Javs would have themselves an explosive fifth inning with eight runs scored including a grand slam homerun by the Dodgers’ Andrew Lambo. Peoria would go on to win the game by a score of 14 to 10.

Scottsdale would seek their second win in a row against the Surprise Rafters on Tuesday night that would start with both teams scoring right away in the first inning. The Rafters would finish the first inning trailing the Scorpions and would have a difficult time catching up due to the magnificent pitching by the Scorpions club. Scottsdale pitching would retire 15 consecutive batters during the game, delaying any run support that Surprise needed.
