Saguaros Pitching Baffles Phoenix

October 29, 2009 by

az_hardballThe Peoria Saguaros pitching does it again with their third shutout of the Arizona Fall League. On an even better note, the last place Saguaros defeated the first place and reigning AFL champions, the Phoenix Desert Dogs. Five Peoria pitchers would combine for the shutout with a total of ten strikeouts with two a piece. While the Desert Dogs’ bats were silenced, Peoria received some run support from Freddie Freeman, Zack Cozart and Jonathan Gaston. Each player would drive in one run a piece. The fourth run would come as a result of a fielding error by Phoenix as the Saguaros win by a score of 4 to nothing.

The Mesa Solar Sox and the Peoria Javelinas would play a close game in Mesa as the Solar Sox would take an early lead with one run in the first and one more in the third inning. In the top of the fifth inning, the Javelinas would get one run to score off of a sacrifice fly by Lucas May scoring Andrew Lambo. The Javelinas would be able to hold Mesa to no more runs as they score two in the eighth inning to come from behind to win the game by a run.
