D-backs fall big in opener
March 4, 2010 by Dean
The Arizona Diamondbacks had their last season opener in Tucson before they move to Scottsdale next year with an unmemorable performance against the Colorado Rockies. The Rockies got to D-backs starter Billy Buckner early early with five of the first six Rockies reaching base before Buckner struck out the final two.
Rockies left fielder Seth Smith went 3-for-3 with a single, double and homer. D-backs second baseman Kelly Johnson made his first appearance in an Arizona uniform driving in the D-backs only run in the first inning. Justin Upton fresh off his new contract came to the plate in the fifth with bases loaded, but grounded into a double play.
