Indians down Mariners
March 9, 2010 by Dean
The Cleveland Indians have been getting a lot of production out of the 1st base position this spring and that continued today with Wes Hodges who went 2-for-3 with four runs batted in. Hodges hits were also timely with a 2-run double in the 5th to tie the game and two more in the 6th to open the gap up. Second baseman Luis Valbuena scored two runs with his 3-for-3 day at the plate. Mariners center fielder Franklin Gutierrez went 2-for-2 on the day with two batted in.
Indians starter Aaron Laffey allowed only one hit with no walks in his two innings of scoreless work. Justin Masterson, who came over from the Red Sox in the Victor Martinez trade allowed three hits and two runs while striking out three in his 1.1 innings. Seattle’s lefty starter Jason Vargas made his second appearance of the spring and looked solid going 3.2 innings of scoreless ball allowing only two hits.
