Strasburg the story of the day
March 9, 2010 by Dean
The story of the day in spring training was the much anticipated debut of wunderkind Stephen Strasburg with the Washington Nationals. Strasburg last year with San Diego State was an impressive 13-1 with a 1.32 era in 109 innings. During that time he allowed only 19 walks and recorded a gaudy 195 strikeouts which made him the easy #1 draft pick for the Nationals last year. After being drafted Strasburg kept everyone on their toes as he waited til the 11th hour before signing a deal with the Nats.
Strasburg is expected to start in the minors this year for the Nationals but look for a quick call-up if he continues pitching like he did today. Strasburg didn’t come out fanning everyone against the Detroit Tigers but recorded an quick an uneventful 1-2-3 inning with three soft hit grounders to infielders. Strasburg would strike out the first batter he faced in the second inning the record another out on a grounder. Detroit was able to manage two singles off Strasburg before he retired the third out with another strike out to end the threat.
