Sheets struggles with new team as A’s fall to White Sox

March 10, 2010 by

The Oakland A’s took a risk this off season in acquiring former Milwaukee Brewers star pitcher Ben Sheets after he missed last season with an injury. Sheets did nothing to calm the nerves of A’s brass today as he allowed five runs in 2.2 innings. Sheets is expected to be the opening day starter for the A’s looked impressive in his first two innings pitching perfect innings. But the wheels came off in the third as Sheets allowed five runs on six hits and a walk.

White Sox outfielder Andruw Jones hit a triple in the third inning knocking in two and A.J. Pierzynski added another two later in the inning.A’s slugger Eric Chavez hit his first two homers of the spring in the loss. The A’s fell to 2-4-1 on the spring while the Sox moved to 3-3-1.
