Lopez impressive in quest for starting rotation spot

March 18, 2010 by

Arizona Diamondbacks starter Rodrigo Lopez hopes to earn a spot in the rotation this year for the D-backs and made a strong case today as he shut out the Oakland Athletics in three innings allowing only one hit and striking out one while walking none. Relievers Bob Howry and Kevin Mulvy were not as impressive allowing two and four runs respectively.

A’s right fielder Ryan Sweeney was 2-for-3 on the day including an RBI before he was relieved by former ASU star Travis Buck who went 1-for-1 and scored two runs, one as a pinch runner.  Center fielder Eric Patterson went 1-for-4 on the day but made his one count as he had a double and drove in three runs. D-backs third baseman Mark Reynolds was 2-for-2 on the day with a homer.
