Zambrano impressive as Cubs shut down Royals

March 20, 2010 by

The Kansas City Royals out hit their opponent and still manged to lose as they were held scoreless in nine innings. That could be the headline for both of the Royals games today. Carlos Zambrano and the Chicago Cubs managed to hold the Royals scoreless as Big Z lasted five innings of three hit shutout ball. Royals starter Edgar Osuna was tagged for four runs in three innings. The Royals bullpen would pick up the slack allowing only two hits in the final five innings. John Parrish would strike out the side in the sixth inning for the Royals.

All the damage for the Cubs was in the second inning with the big hit coming from three-run bases clearing double off the bat of short stop Ryan Theriot. Geovany Soto would also knock in one run.
