Ian Kennedy Baffles Padres

March 22, 2010 by

The Arizona Diamondbacks would face the San Diego Padres in Tucson as the fans experienced a bit of a pitchers duel in the first half of the game. The game would remain scoreless through six innings as Ian Kennedy would out pitch the San Diego staff despite only going five innings. In his near perfect performance, Kennedy would pitch for five innings, striking out eight as he only allowed two hits without any walks.

For the Padres, Clayton Richard would throw six of the Padres’ eight scoreless innings while striking out three. Things looked bleak for Arizona as the Padres were able to put a combined four runs on the board in the last three innings. In the bottom of the ninth, D-backs pinch hitter John Hester and outfielder Drew Macias would hit a couple two run blasts that would tie the game to send it into extra innings. In the bottom of the tenth, shortstop Jake Wald would drive in the game-winning run.
