Kennedy Earns Second Win in Close Game

May 4, 2010 by

The Arizona Diamondbacks win two in a row in Houston as the D-backs edge the Astros by a score of one to nothing. With Ian Kennedy facing a pretty solid Roy Oswalt, what began as a pretty solid pitching match would end that way as the D-backs win with a shutout. Oswalt’s quality start would come to an abrupt end as a result of a towering home run to deep center field by Justin Upton in the third inning of play. In one of the more quite offensive games of the season for the D-backs, the defense was able to successfully support the pitching in a victory well deserved for the young right hander.

Oswalt threw an excellent game despite the loss. The Astros starter would throw for seven innings, striking out eight batters. Ian Kennedy would throw six and two-thirds scoreless innings for the Diamondbacks as he would strike out three batters. Chad Qualls would come in to close the game for the D-backs as he earns his sixth save of the season.

This series may prove to be a beneficial one for the D-backs relief staff as they are able to get some good innings in. To date, they have not blown any saves against the struggling Houston team. From a phycological perspective, this is a good thing. Arizona has two more games in Houston as they look to win another series on the road. On Wednesday Rodrigo Lopez will take the mound against Brett Myers. Lopez has a one and one record and Myers’ record sits at one win and two losses.
