Dan Haren Throws Complete Game in Win

May 6, 2010 by

The Arizona Diamondbacks would go into the game looking for a win to take the series with Dan Haren on the mound. The Diamondbacks would score first off of a lead off home run by Kelly Johnson. It would be Johnson’s tenth homer of the season as he gives the D-backs and Dan Haren an early lead. Three more Arizona runs would score in the third inning as the team was able to extend their lead. Justin Upton would drive in Kelly Johnson on an RBI single and Mark Reynolds would drive in a run of his own on a sacrifice fly scoring Tony Abreu. Later that inning, Chris Young would be able to drive in Justin Upton.

The D-backs would have a decent lead as Tony Abreu would hit an RBI double to score Dan Haren in the top of the fourth inning. In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Astros would be able to score two runs as they prepared to close in on the Diamondbacks. In the fifth inning Adam LaRoche would triple as Rusty Ryal would drive him in with an RBI single to third. The fifth and sixth innings would be quick ones for Dan Haren as he makes the best of the Houston batters by retiring the side with a total of 12 pitches. The Astros would score one more run in the bottom of the eighth inning as they lose the game and the series to the Diamondbacks by a score of six to three.

Dan Haren would pitch wonderfully but would show signs of getting tired in the seventh inning, only to bounce back to pitch his tenth complete game of his career. The D-backs would also get some solid support from Tony Abreu as he would go four-for-five with one run scored and one RBI. Haren would also help himself out at the plate as he is able to knock a double along with Abreu as LaRoach would get the third extra base hit for the D-backs.

The Diamondbacks return home to face the Milwaukee Brewers in a series that looks to be a potential home run derby. Both teams are leading the league in hitting and have a combined 71 home runs against opposing pitching. On Friday night, in addition to post game fireworks, Yovani Gallardo will face off against Edwin Jackson as Jackson seeks his second win as a Diamondback.
