Upton and Jackson power D-backs to win

Arizona Diamondbacks young stud Justin Upton broke out in a big way today going 2-for-2 with 3 runs batted in and scored one on his second home run of the spring in the 5th inning. Left fielder Conner Jackson, coming back from almost a whole season missed due to Valley Fever went 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Cincinnati Reds offense was lead by Jay Bruce who played DH today and got two of the Reds six hits and knocked in one.

D-backs starter Billy Buckner did not help himself much in his effort to land a starting rotation spot allowing two runs on two hits off two homers in his three innings of work. Roque Mercedes did look impressive in his one inning of work as he struck out the side in the 8th for the D-backs.

D-backs fall to Cleveland in Tucson

The Cleveland Indians traveled to Tucson to play the Arizona Diamondbacks and behind the back of center fielder Michael Brantley downed the home team by a score of 3-2. Brantley lead off the game with a triple and would add a double and single with an RBI and run scored falling a homer short of the cycle. Indians first baseman Andy Marte continued to look good early in the spring with a 1-for-2 outing.

D-backs starter Rodrigo Lopez who is challenging for the 5th starter spot started out rough with his triple to Brantley, but then allowed only one more hit and not walks while recording two strikeouts through two innings. Infielder Tony Abreu continued to produce this spring knocking in his third run of the Cactus League. While Brandon Allen did not record a hit he did record two walks and an RBI.

Drew Hot in D-Backs First Win

The Diamondbacks were able to dodge the rainy weather in Phoenix today as they split their squads in Tucson to play their neighboring Colorado Rockies. Arizona would win the first of their two games with the help of Stephen Drew. Drew would lead off the game with a double as he makes adjustments this spring to get his stroke back. In the first inning of play the D-backs would earn two runs and turn up the heat the following inning. Read more

Colorado’s Split Splits one with Arizona

The Rockies and the D-backs would face each others’ split squads as two of the only teams that were able to play on Sunday. Both games went on in Tucson and were stopped short due to the approaching weather. The game would go scoreless through three innings with the Diamondbacks scoring the first run in the fourth inning. Giants Come Back to Punish D-backs

The Arizona Diamondbacks would start the game strong with some solid pitching by Edwin Jackson. One of the newest members of the D-backs pitching staff would throw for two innings, striking out two and allowing no earned runs. Gutierrez would also pitch well, striking out two while the D-backs would begin the game with the lead. In the fourth inning Arizona would manufacture four runs in what would look like a solid lead.
