Blanks’ Sixth Inning Blast Gives Padres the Edge

The Angels would start off the game at Angel Stadium on the right foot as they were able to score the first run of the game for the team. The Padres would answer back in the following inning with a run of their own. In the fourth inning, the Padres would score one run to take the lead of the game. In the sixth inning Kyle Blanks would hit a three-run homer that would give the Padres some added insurance.

Los Angeles would score again with one run in the sixth and ninth innings. The Angels would leave two men stranded in the bottom of the ninth as they lose their chance at taking the game. The Padres would beat the Angels in the Southern California showdown by a score of five to three.

Angels down Indians in 9th

Matt Palmer got the start for the Los Angeles Angels against the Cleveland Indians, but it was Trevor Reckling who got the majority of the work and the win going the last five innings and allowing two runs n five hits and a walk. Aaron Laffey took the mound for the Indians to start and allowed three runs on five hits in three innings.

Indians Shin-Soo Choo started in right field and went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. He was later replaced by Brian Horwitz who went 2-for-2 with a run scored. Angels leadoff hitter and left fielder Bradley Coon went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Center fielder Mike Trout went 2-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored.

Angels Attack From the Plate and Mound to Pound Chicago

The Los Angeles Angels would score two runs as they opened the game against the Chicago Cubs in Mesa. The Angels would be able to score two more runs in the fourth inning as they increase their lead to four over the Cubs. In the last four frames of the game, the Angels would drive in seven more runs as they shut out the Cubs by a score of eleven to nothing.

Angels’ pitcher Jered Weaver would pitch nearly flawless has he would strike out nine batters in five innings pitched, only allowing one hit. The Angels’ pitching staff would only allow two hits on the day as they brought their “A” game. At the plate Napoli, Bourjos, and Evans would all have two-run home runs in the Angel victory over the Cubs. Napoli’s homer would be his sixth of the spring.

Angels and White Sox Tie it at Sevens

The White Sox and Angels would play ball in Glendale as Chicago would open up the game with two runs in the first inning of play. In the third inning, the White Sox would have a big inning as they were able to score five more runs on the game. For the White Sox pitcher John Danks would go five and two-thirds innings, striking out a total of seven batters while going scoreless for the first five innings. Danks would be removed from the game after giving up three runs to the Angels.

The Angels, who scored three in the sixth and another four runs in the seventh, would tie the game with Chicago. Angels pitching would only allow two more hits for the last six innings of play as the two teams end up even at seven a piece.

Pineiro and Aybar lead Angels to win

The Los Angeles Angels cruised through the Cactus League last spring, but this year have fallen flat as they entered the game today with only eight wins. Today they picked up their ninth and Joel Pineiro moved to 3-0 with his victory over the Kansas City Royals. Pineiro lasted 6.2 innings allowing only one run on two hits and two walks. The Royals started Kyle Farnsworth who pitched two scoreless innings allowing only one hit.

The Angels leadoff hitter Erick Aybar was a perfect 4-for-4 on the day scoreing once and knocking in two. Third baseman Brandon Wood was 1-for-2 with a walk and scored three times with another two knocked in. The Angels moved to 9-14-2 on the spring while the Royals fell to 12-11-3.

Indians bats explode for 15

It’s not often a starting pitcher can go 3.2 innings allowing five runs on four hits and six walks, but that is exactly what Cleveland Indians Carlos Carrasco did today. Los Angeles Angels starter Ervin Santana only allowed one run to score in the first four innings, but in the fifth the wheels fell off and Santana would allow another four earned runs. Not to be outdone, reliever Fernando Rodney walked three of the five men he faced and allowed four earned runs in .1 innings of work.

Angles Howard Kendrick hit a two-run double and Bobby Abreu and Torii Hunter also added an RBI each. Seven of the Indians batters had at least two hits lead by Shin Soo-Choo who went 4-for-6 with three RBIs and a run scored. First baseman Matt LaPorta was 2-for-3 but knocked in five runs.

Angels Edge Giants in Back and Forth Battle

The Angels and Giants would play at Tempe Diablo Stadium as the Angels would take the lead in the third inning. The lead would come as a result of a two-run shot by Bobby Abreu off of Barry Zito. The Giants would be able to regain the lead in the fifth inning as they drove in three runs. Giants’ catcher Bengie Molina would drive in all three runs scored for his team.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Angels would come back with two more runs to regain the lead. Neither team would score for the remainder of the game as the two teams keep it close with the final score, Giants three and the Angels four.

Late 3 puts Giants over Angels

Los Angeles Angels starter Trevor Reckling started strong holding the San Francisco Giants scoreless through four innings. When all was said and done the righty lasted 4.2 innings allowing two runs on four hits and three walks. Giants starter Tim Lincecum didn’t allow many runs but struggled some in his four innings of work allowing six hits and walking two while striking out seven. Lincecum left trailing 1-0 after four.

The Giants trailed 3-2 heading into the eighth before they were able to put up 3 against Francisco Rodriguez. First baseman Buster Posey hit a double scoring knocking in a run then catcher Steve Holm hit a two-run bases loaded single to seal the win.

Angels down Rangers behind 15 hits

The Los Angeles sent Sean O’Sullivan to the mound to start the game and the young righty allowed three runs on eight hits and two walks over four innings of work. The Texas Rangers lefty Derek Holland looked strong through three scoreless innings, but ended the day with four runs allowed on eight hits in 5.1 innings.

Former Angel Vladimir Guerrero was 2-for-4 on the day raising his spring average to .326, but stranded five runners on base. Kendry Morales started at first base for the Halos and was 2-for-3 on the day with a run scored. Both Maicer Izturis and DH Hideki Matsui scored two runs.

Angels get win behind three homers

The Angels did something today they have not done much this spring, win. Starter Joel Pineiro looked ready to start the season going five innings of shutout ball allowing five hits. Barrett Browning on the other hand was not so impressive allowing three runs on four hits and a walk without retiring a Royals batter. Royals starter Brian Bannister was hit hard allowing five runs on six hits, two of them homers.

Angels outfielder Torii Hunter hit two homers along with new DH Hideki Matsui and catcher Mike Napoli who both hit one homer and drove in seven runs between them. Napoli now has five homers this spring. The Angels moved to 6-12-2 while the Royals fell to 8-9-3.
