Cojack to Oakland in Hopes to Shore Up Relief

It was announced early Tuesday morning that longtime D-back and fan favorite Conor Jackson had been traded to the Oakland Athletics for minor league pitcher Sam Demel. Since his arrival in 2005, Conor Jackson has been a mainstay in the lineup for the D-backs from 2006 to 2008. With three seasons of 25 or more doubles, two 15 home run seasons and a respectable .277 lifetime batting average, Conor will certainly be missed by the fans. During the 2009 season, Jackson was overtaken by a mysterious illness, later diagnosed as valley fever as he would miss the majority of the season for Arizona. In an effort to make some changes in the bullpen, the D-backs would trade the outfielder who did show some signs of improvement for the 2010 season. Read more
Oakland Shuts Out Bay Area Neighbors

Oakland would get off to a jump-start on the Giants of San Francisco as the two teams played at AT&T Park. In the first inning Kurt Suzuki would hit a two-run shot off of Barry Zito. Oakland would score two more in the third inning as the Giants would be unable to put any runs up on the board. The Athletics would score three more runs in the fifth inning and one more in the eighth. Read more
Leake picksup first win as Reds down A’s
Former ASU standout pitcher Mike Leake made a statement today allowing two runs on four hits in six innings of work picking up his first win as the Cincinnati Reds downed the Oakland Athletics 8-3. Dallas Braden started for the A’s and allowed seven funs on 12 hits in 5.1 innings.
Travis Buck, Leake’s former teammate at ASU hit his fourth homer of the spring off his Sundevil friend and was 2-for-4 on the day. Scott Rolen knocked in three runs on the day for the Reds as did Drew Stubbs. Both stubs and Laynce Nix hit a homer for the Reds.
Strong bullpen leads to Mariners win over A’s
Seattle Mariners sent Jason Vargas to the mound to start against the Oakland Athletics and Vargas lasted five innings allowing two runs on four hits and four walks. The Mariners bullpen would be the story the rest of the way allowing just three hits and one walk over the next four shutout innings. A’s starter Gio Gonzalez was strong allowing only one run on three hits while walking three in his 6.1 innings.
A’s center fielder and leadoff man Coco Crisp went 2-for-4 on the day raising his average to .414. Crisp made his hits count too with a double and homer. Seattle scored it’s first run on a wild pitch and then would score their other two on solo homers by Franklin Gutierrez and Josh Bard.
A’s and Rockies tie
Colorado Rockies starter Jorge De La Rosa pitched 5.2 innings allowing only one run to score on seven hits and a walk. Angels starter Brett Anderson lasted five full but allowed six runs on eight hits and three walks.
A’s Jake Fox lead Oakland’s offense going 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBIs on his third homer of the spring. Rockies short stop Troy Tulowitzki went 1-for-3 on the on the day and hit his fourth homer of the spring.
